Awaited cloud computing technological trends

Although there has much hype over cloud computing, many companies are still going slow on it. 2011 definitely seems to be the year for this technology. Cloud computing is a sweeping paradigm shift in the way companies work. This shift has to be well-accommodated across the different departments in large organizations. Cloud computing also means change management.

Most organizations are planning to adopt this technology. So it won’t be long when domino effect start to take place where companies start falling for cloud computing! Some companies might be skeptical before proceeding to adopt the technology. They will wait till others have had a successful run with it. If the find that they have, they will immediately express their interest in the technology.

In cloud computing, the race is being run by some large corporations who make cloud computing services. It is still not clear who is winning at this point. The three top players are Google’s App Engine, Amazon’s Web Services, and Microsoft’s Azure. With the market still wide open, it could be anybody’s game. Out of the blue a company might surface from somewhere and hog the competition.

Companies that have transitioned to the cloud model of computing are setting up dedicated tech support administration teams. This is again another trend that cloud computing had produced. No sooner will there be requirement for personnel qualified to work in cloud computing environments. What it will also give rise to is a slew of cloud computing certifications.
Surveys have revealed that companies preferred their email applications to be on the cloud. Almost half of the surveyed companies were interested in email as a cloud service. So it is likely that email clients will transition to a cloud based environment in the future.

As companies are trying to gain prominence in a competitive market, their IT landscape will be examined under the cloud-computing scanner. Rest assured , cloud computing will bring in a sea of trends.

The Thrill of Online Gaming with Today’s Technology

If you have a computer in your home, you have most likely played at least one online game. Maybe you like solitaire or you are more apt to search out one of the many bingo sites that are online. The way we play games has come so far in the past few years, and it is still amazing. Years ago people would go to the bingo hall and spend a few hours in a loud, smoke-filled room playing five or six cards at a time. Times are definitely changing. What has made these online games such a huge trend? Something called Moore’s Law, which was a forecast by Gordon Moore. It was an amount of transistors on a microchip that would double periodically. Think back to when the computer and the Internet were at its newest. Different gaming sites and bingo sites would take forever to load. Some games took longer to load than it did to play. Now, because of Moore’s Law, these same sites load almost instantaneously. Technology has grown to such a capacity that you can even play more than one game at a time on a single computing system.

Because software relies directly on the hardware of your computer, the more power your hardware is, the more software (or games) your computer will be able to process and will be able to do this in a much shorter period of time.

How smartphones have made us smarter

Smartphones have truly changed the way we live and work. Our daily lives are so much dependent on the features offered by the smartphone. From the time the applications on the web transitioned to the mobile platform, anybody is connected to anybody even on the move. For example, if you are not able to pick a call, you can use your smartphone to leave a message on the other person’s social media application account. It could be a facebook account or an orkut account.

These palm-sized devices have added so much efficiency to people. Things can get done faster and without any delay. Updates are received on the fly. There is absolutely no room for procrastination. Previously everything needed lots of time in preparation. With smartphones, preparation can be instantaneous, or best said spontaneous. Just imagine you were traveling somewhere. You will need to spend hours asking people on the route, making travel arrangements. But with smartphones, such things can be easily done. Route can be easily found using GPS. You can also plan where to stop and where to eat.

Smartphones have redefined the way people communicate with each other. From real-time communication, it has now become virtual communication. People have started to communicate by way of scraps, messages, wall posts, tweets, and video calls. This whole paradigm shift is actually going to be the way people talk to each other in the future.

With smartphones it so easy for us to see the way we have lived. It allows us to capture every moment of our lives. Smartphones make us realize our life’s worth. By enabling us to capture every moment of our lives, we are able to review our lives. It is almost like a personal diary, the only difference being is that it is comprised of videos, photos, messages, and scraps.

While the Safari on the iPhone does give good browsing capabilities, it’s the only option available for iPhone. Which makes the iPhone a little rigid. Another thing is that Safari does not use Adobe Flash player. So you can’t view multimedia content that plays on Flash. Cut to the browsers on the Android phones, they are probably the more versatile ones. Android phones can accommodate multiple browsers that provide Flash compatibility.

Better connectivity

You can save you battery power on Android phones by using the various conservation features. You can download third-party applications that manage your wireless connections. Android mobile phones have better navigational features to access your bluetooth, WiFi and GPS.

Customizations

You can use Android’s multitasking features to do various things at one time. Apart from that, the rich-media content can be highly personalized. This feature is not present in the iPhone. You can set the way your UI screens look. You can different screens for different applications. You can also set the way your Android phone works. Android phones offer so much customizations, that it can truly be called personalized mobile phones.

Open architecture

Android phones are built on Linux. Everyone knows the code base. This makes it even better for improvements. When the code is known by a wider section of people, improvements to the mobile phone can be made by a wider section of developers. This is a much better thing, than being a proprietary architecture, that only a set of limited people know about. But, the downside of this is that hackers might know how to get their way into Android phones. Yet, this is not a weakness, because if the open source community gets a whiff of it, it is plugged immediately.

There are a lot of other things that make Android phones better than the iPhone. Now with many mobile phone, smartphone, and tablet manufacturers turning to Android, the gap looks to widen more.

Choosing memory cards for digital cameras

Choosing memory cards for digital cameras is not as easy as it looks. The memory card should be able to accommodate the number of images you click and it should retain it with the highest quality. Most digi-cameras store data on memory cards.

A memory card is also called as flash card. It is an electronic device capable of storing data. Memory cards are multi-purpose storage utilities and can be used in mobile phones and other handheld devices as well. The images from the memory card are transferred to a laptop or computer through cables. A card reader can also do this job. The memory card is inserted into the card reader. So the trick is to use lower megabyte memory card for lower megapixel cameras and vice versa. A minimum of 1MB is needed when choosing a memory card for a digital camera. You will also need to check the memory card supported by your camera. Check your camera’s product literature on this. Though there is a variety of memory cards from different brands, your camera might support only some or many of them.

Cameras nowadays do not come with memory cards. Even if they did, it would not be sufficient for your personal needs. So you might want to buy another memory card.

Peer-to-peer networking has changed the way servers work

Peer-to-peer networking is also abbreviated as P2P. You might have come across this term many times and wondered what it was. P2P is a new-age computing technique that chops down workloads into random parts. Each part will be rendered by a distributed computing architecture. P2P is increasingly becoming popular by people with huge data needs.The part rendering the partial workload will be performed by a peer. Every peer will have the equal responsibility of ensuring the task becomes a success.  In a computer networking, P2P network can form between groups of computers that are connected by a common application installed on them.

The idea behind a P2P network is multiple. Computing resources like processor power, storage capacity, and bandwidth are shared between the computers. By doing this, pressure is released of a single computer that will need to perform the task, in case if P2P networking was not existent.

P2P nodes intake and output resources like multimedia content and so on. This is different from the client-server model where only one computer is the consumer while the other is a server. In P2P networking the nodes are both servers as well as consumers.

P2P is extremely useful for sharing files. When huge chunks of data need to be downloaded P2P networks solve this problem. While in the traditional methods, one server was accessed for a huge chunk of file, in P2P, ‘’seeds’’ are searched. Seeds are computers that already have this file.

The advantages of this technology are immense. In the age of increasing demand for multimedia resources over the internet, a distributed resource and task sharing mechanism eases network traffic. The decentralized approach is better than a centralized one where a single server or single servers will be pounded with requests for data. Without such technology it might be virtually impossible to download movies over the internet. Even if possible it could take much more time than what it could if using P2P technology.
